"Craftsman and metalworker extraordinaer MOLTENSTEELMAN debuted his 23-foot long and 12,000-lb. mechanical spider walker at Burning Man and I have to admit, this is the kind of machine that gives me nightmares. It is an eight footed walker that is powered by a 454 Chevy V8."

It's autonomous, GPS guided, has a complete snow-munching digestive tract, and poops ice bricks with a smile.

Here's a novel robot locomotion concept:

"This was created as a proto-type for the Swarm Burning Man Project. It consists of an 11" hamster ball from the pet store, a Tamiya worm gear
power unit, and standard R/C radio, servo and speed controller."

Craig from the Twin Cities Robotics Group demonstrated his homemade R2-D2 droid at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry.

Here's a link to the video. Check out how it's able to transform to and from biped and 3 wheel mode.

Here's a video of a small robot Humvee that transforms into a biped. I've seen a couple of these types of robots before, but this one's auto and robot modes are quite convincing.

Oh.. and it's got some sick dance moves.

This is a cool interactive hexapod robot made by Matt Denton. Using facial recognition, it's able to track you around and take a photo of your face if you hold it's gaze for too long. In all, its responses are pretty lifelike and worth checking out.

Sex bots: Terminator T-800 edition. Not work safe... unless you are employed in the field of genetic robotics.

One more example of how everything in tech is bound to get incredibly small. Tiny, cheap, smart and expendable -- what's not to love?

"A life-size, robotic fly has taken flight at Harvard University. Weighing only 60 milligrams, with a wingspan of three centimeters, the tiny robot's movements are modeled on those of a real fly. While much work remains to be done on the mechanical insect, the researchers say that such small flying machines could one day be used as spies, or for detecting harmful chemicals."

Take a look at the short film Tetra Vaal.
Directed by 27-year-old Neill Blomkamp for the Embassy Visual Effects Inc., the short — a pseudo–corporate video for a fictional robotics company — shows a robot cop policing the streets of a Johannesburg township. The effects go beyond the extraordinary (even the robot’s relaxed-alert cop posture is stunningly lifelike), and the combination of the documentary-style footage and computer-generated images is convincing enough that you might find yourself wondering if you were on vacation during the announcement that robots are indeed now among us.

If you liked the Tetra Vaal video ( http://www.meshly.com/post/robot... ), you'll also want to watch Alive in Joberg.

Also directed by Neill Blomkamp, it takes the similar documentary fiction style. Aliens have landed in South Africa, fomenting inter-species classism, discrimination, fear and violence.

I make electronic music as a hobby. And I really really want one of these cute little theremin-ish bots (or a LEGION of them) for my live set.

Mr. Woo makes incredible walking robots from recycled junk parts. Incredibly, he's doing this in rural China, with no formal education or training.
