Second Life retailers ready to deliver the real goods
Reebok, Adidas, American Apparel and 1-800-Flowers.com are among the retailers beginning to sell their wares in virtual game Second Life for delivery to the real world, but the sales payoff isn't there yet, according to this article. "This is more about relationship building for us right now, and exposing our brand," said Christopher G. McCann, president of 1-800-Flowers.com.

There's a new project starting with the objective of cataloguing all known species of life in a single, online database. It's sort of a biological Wikipedia:

"Comprehensive, collaborative, ever-growing, and personalized, the Encyclopedia of Life is an ecosystem of websites that makes all key information about life on Earth accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. Our goal is to create a constantly evolving encyclopedia that lives on the Internet, with contributions from scientists and amateurs alike. To transform the science of biology, and inspire a new generation of scientists, by aggregating all known data about every living species. And ultimately, to increase our collective understanding of life on Earth, and safeguard the richest possible spectrum of biodiversity."

Am I the only one who immediately thinks of Tron's Master Control Program saying "End of Line"? It would be appropriate if this served as an archive of life after some horrible apocalyptic event - but let's not think about that.

In a script-driven note sent out last week, Lessig wrote: “Dear person who sent me a yet-unanswered e-mail, I apologize, but I am declaring e-mail bankruptcy.”

He went on to note that he had spent 80 hours the prior week sorting through unanswered e-mail built up since January 2002, and had determined that “without extraordinary effort” he would simply never be able to respond to these messages.

Lloyd Godson spent 2 weeks living underwater as an experiment in sustainable living.

He experimented with growing algae to generate oxygen, biking for electricity and growing his own food, which will hopefully provide a few insights for reproducing the experiment on a larger scale in the future.
