Freeearth is an attempt to do a flash-only 3D globe ala google earth. It uses yahoo geoAPI for geocoding, and also provides an API for using it from other websites. http://freeearth.poly9.com/api/d...

Here's a literal take on the viral web. Biomedical scientists used Google Earth to map the spread of the avian flu virus. The simulation contains additional data points including various strains of virus evolution and the hosts organisms that it is able to infect.

About 55 million years ago, according to scientists, there was a massive global warming event that raised temperatures about 10 degrees, and the culprit then — as now — was greenhouse gases. These greenhouse gases didn't come from human activity but volcanic activity.
