Don't know why this isn't getting more press but I think this is huge. Google Gears is a new browser extension that lets developers make or enable their web apps to work offline. For Google it's a MSFT killer as gmail is now an offline client too, etc.

This could be a Google killer, too. At least from their current strategy (especially with the acquisition of Doubleclick) of centralizing and mining user information.
There's room for a new application model where the processing and storage of user data will happen on the client side, but where the deployment, maintenance, and utility structures are still centralized by the service provider.
Not to say that this is a real killer for msft or goog, but this way of thinking about web applications changes the playing field.
