I wish this weren't a hoax, because I really think I want one of these:
"Say Hello to the all New Genpets™ from Bio.Genica! The Genpets™ are Pre-Packaged, Bioengineered pets implemented today!"
"That’s right, Genpets are not toys or robots. They are living, breathing genetic animals."
Apparently, they are available in 2 models, one with a 1-year life span, and the other with a 3-year life span.

Willing to bet it's an artists' hoax, much like the now infamous "bonsai kittens" stuffed cruelly into glass cases. After reading the FAQs and what not, I think it may be people who're actually anti-bioengineering making a veiled yet striking point.
What's even funnier to me is how very smart people miss the boat on the hoaxes. Peta flipped on Bonsai Kittens. Petitions were drafted. ... It was all Photoshop, people.
