Since YouTube redirected all of it's promoted homepage videos and RickRoll'D its entire homepage-viewing user base, we can get a bit of a glimpse at the number of passive and active users who visit the homepage in a 24-hour period.

Based on previously released video view stats, it would also appear that over 95% of video views are from external referrers and embedded videos (as opposed to homepage browsing).

I wanted to share a site with you folks that I've been working on with the dev team at Colle+McVoy this last month.

As part of a project for Free Arts Minnesota, we put together a little web toy that allows you to make your own digital Qee and share it with the world.

What's a Qee? They are cute little vinyl toys. They come blank-white, and you get to be the designer and paint them any way you like. The digital version lets you experiment a little more with your design skills and you can fire the little dudes off to your friends.

It's pretty fun. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Craig from the Twin Cities Robotics Group demonstrated his homemade R2-D2 droid at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry.

Here's a link to the video. Check out how it's able to transform to and from biped and 3 wheel mode.

Here's a video of a small robot Humvee that transforms into a biped. I've seen a couple of these types of robots before, but this one's auto and robot modes are quite convincing.

Oh.. and it's got some sick dance moves.

"One part geek Olympics, one part community service project and one part race-against-the-clock—Sierra Bravo’s F1 Overnight Website Challenge will partner deserving Minnesota non-profits with teams of talented web developers for 24 hours of fun collaboration culminating in a fully operational website for each participating non-profit."

Two reasons why this is an awesome idea:
1. A short-timespan codeathon means you can donate your time without worrying about a gratis project blowing way out of scope. Anything that doesn't contribute to the goal needs to be efficiently nipped in the bud.
2. It supports the concept that a defined programming effort and a small team can actually accomplish a huge amount of work in a small amount of time.

There's a popular suspended "stretch" ceiling material used in Europe that's made from a PVC film that you pull across the ceiling into hidden frames on each wall.

It makes for a really nice, smooth ceiling, but just look what happens when the neighbor upstairs has a water leak!

If you're interested in the material, here's a link to one of the brands that makes this product, a French company called Clipso:

"Collecting urine, that magical yellow liquid we excrete from our bodies several times a day, is a key step in recycling human nutrients. Urine contains most of the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium we release. These nutrients are the major components of chemical fertilizers, and urine is an amazing plant fertilizer! It is typically sterile, and, if separated from feces, can be easily and safely reused. Urine collection can be as simple as peeing in a jar or installing a urinal or urine-diverting dry or composting toilet. Although female urinals haven't caught on yet, there are some designs and models available."

All you need is a five gallon jug! Boy, I can't wait for female urinals to catch on.

This is probably the best movie pilot ever made, perfecting all the great themes that you've come to expect from the classic dino-archeology, drift racing, interdimensional physics genre.

CNN just broke the news of this groundbreaking study. Shattering all previous assumptions, science has proven conclusively that men seek attractive mates.

"Men's choices did not reflect their stated preferences, the researchers concluded. Instead, men appeared to base their decisions mostly on the women's physical attractiveness.

The men also appeared to be much less choosy. Men tended to select nearly every woman above a certain minimum attractiveness threshold, Todd said.

...The scientists said women were aware of the importance of their own attractiveness to men, and adjusted their expectations to select the more desirable guys."
