iGmail is an IMAP server that runs between you and Gmail. You can use any IMAP client to connect to your gateway. IGmail is open source, and has been released under the GNU GPL v2.

Joshua Davis puts together some really beautiful computational artwork using actionscript. His method is to define a set of drawing rules and allow the algorithm to create the composition automatically.

You can download example source from his site, which you can extrapolate into your own computer generated art creations.
