FRITO-LAY'S DORITOS IS BACK AT the consumer-generated game once again. This time, it's partnering with Microsoft's Xbox 360 to let fans design an Xbox LIVE Arcade game embodying the spirit of the tortilla chip brand.
In addition to a $6,000 prize package, five finalists will get to work with Xbox LIVE Arcade development teams to build playable versions of their game concept, which will be available at the Doritos development Web site www.snackstrongproductions.com. In late October and early November, visitors to the site will get to play the finalists' games and vote for the one concept they want to see developed for release. The winning concept will be developed by Xbox360 for free download in summer 2008. Traffic on YouTube related to the 2008 presidential race spiked in March and April, largely on two unofficial, critical videos, one about Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, the other about Republican John McCain, according to a study of YouTube traffic by Nielsen/Net Ratings.
An anti-Clinton "1984" video, in which the New York senator is portrayed as a Big Brother-ish figure, accounted for about 75% of all traffic to candidate-related videos on YouTube in March, Nielsen found.
Nielsen found a far greater number of unique visitors watched Democratic candidate YouTube videos in March -- 1.54 million visitors, compared with Republicans' 108,000 visitors. But that number was high because of the anti-Clinton "1984" video, which was produced by a supporter of her leading rival, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. By April, traffic had stabilized, Nielsen found, and both sides attracted 300,000-400,000 unique viewers on YouTube.
Mrs. Clinton's Web videos drew the most attention, drawing 23.2% of the total time in April spent by YouTube visitors viewing political videos. Mr. Obama followed with 20%. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards was third, at 16.1%
The Republicans followed, led by Mr. McCain, who drew 14.9% of all political viewing time. His two main rivals -- former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani -- lagged behind at 6.2% and 1.3%, respectively. I can hardly confirm this news source or its integrity...u gotta admit the notion is funny. And scarily plausible that our 'great leaders' could seriously consider it. Curious how the tests would be conducted... Submitted by aki - 2007-06-13 06:05:20 Channels - fallonplanningblog Tags - politics 2.0 guilty pleasure Comment on this post

IN AN APPARENT ATTEMPT TO boost ad efforts, YouTube is poised to start collecting more detailed demographic information about its users. "There's lots you can glean from looking at who's looking at what," YouTube CMO Suzie Reider reportedly said this week at an Advertising Research Foundation conference. "It's a real-time focus group that happens all day, every day," she continued, according to Advertising Age. The report was vague about what type of data the site intends to amass, but consider that parent company Google already keeps track of user searches and ties them to specific IP addresses -- a practice that has drawn the ire of watchdog groups.
At the same time, her remarks are somewhat puzzling, given that YouTube is still struggling to figure out its ad model. If YouTube decides to stick to contextual ads -- Google's specialty -- little user data is needed, because ads would be served based on the content watched, and not the user's identity. YouTube executives also are talking about pre-roll or post-roll ads, but even if the site starts showing video ads in the near future, it would be surprising if YouTube was ready to target those ads by behavior any time soon.
